Funds needed

With you assistance Ingwavuma Orphan Care need to raise funds for two priority projects:

1. Employ the services of an extra social worker to speed up the orphan grants for the orphaned children

  • Based on working model used for payment of existing social workers at Ingwavuma Orphan Care
    • Presently a social worker focuses on 45 orphan families for 4 months, with the objective of getting them foster care grants and access to Ingwavuma Orphan Care’s other interventions.

By employing an extra social worker, an extra
15 – 30 orphaned children per month will be obtaining foster care grants
. It’s a large range because each case is so different (some are so simple while others turn out to be impossible)

  • Each foster care grant per orphaned child is R590.00 per child, so for 240 grants in a year it equals around R1.699.200.00 million coming into the area, which naturally supports the local community a great deal.

2. Raising and Training Orphan Carers

Once children have these foster care grants there is a need to support these orphan families with advice on how to spend their grants, school support, homework support, counseling due to dying relatives, general life skills which are absent because of the dying generation.

  • Train 6 orphan carers, this will enable
    • 60 orphans to receive on-going and sustainable support by community carers
      • The Orphan Carer Co-ordinator picks up cases after the social worker has finished and begins assessing the needs of the family
      • Through consulting the neighbours and relatives, someone in the community is identified who is already trying to care for orphans
      • Ingwavuma Orphan Care takes in the person and trains them and supports them based on experience and expertise
      • Ingwavuma Orphan Care finds other orphans and/or vulnerable children in the area in close proximity of the orphan carer (so they can walk) Ingwavuma Orphan Care asses the orphan needs until the carer has 3 to 4 families to care for.
  • This ensures sustainable employment opportunities for the community
